Mushrooms popping up
These actually appeared in the "fairy ring" pattern, a rather large circular formation of mushrooms, so named because people imagined fairies caused them to sprout up so they could have a marked-off dance floor for their fae parties.
In fact it's more easily explainable by a single mushroom popping up at first, spreading its spores out all around itself, then dying, and a second generation of mushrooms popping up in a ring around the original one.
